My Nighttime Routine

You've probably read my morning routine and have been wanting to read about a nighttime routine. Truthfully, my night time routine in comparison is much less structured or established. But there's a few things I always do before going to bed that help me unwind and relax! Keep reading to see how I get ready for bed!

Eat Dinner

Growing up, my family did family dinners every single night. I've learned that in marriage you have to be so intentional about setting traditions or routines. Over the past 7 months I've tried maintaining this cherished tradition by having dinner with Anup every night — with no phones or tv! We'll usually have jazz music in the background and candles lit around our home to set the mood. After dinner, Anup will do this dishes (something we agreed upon before entering married life because I hate doing the dishes) and I'll clean up the kitchen!

Spend time With my Husband

Afterwards, Anup and I will usually spend time together whether that's watching a movie, playing card games, doing the New York Times crossword, planning a vacation, or just catching up on our day. Since we both work from home, it's hard to have time together during the day when there's meetings or work calls— so the evenings are reserved for each other. It's my favorite time of the day.

Read a Book

At some point during the night, we'll both drift away from each other and start doing our own thing. I've become such an introvert after starting grad school that I was worried about getting my "alone time" in married life and thankfully we've been able to make time for each other and for ourselves. Lately I've been getting back into reading before bed. I've been loving The Secrets We Kept, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, and The Last Thing He Told Me. I curl up on my couch by the window, overlooking the city skyline and read a few pages. Doing something relaxing like reading a book helps prepare your mind and body for restful sleep.

Skin Care

At night I love using skincare products that will seep into my skin while I sleep. I've been using the Biossance Squalene Eye Cream to help with tired under eyes, a hydrating serum like Drunk Elephant's B Hydra Intensive, and end with the iconic Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask as a moisturizer. Some days I'll even go to bed with a DIY hair mask that consists of castor oil and coconut oil.

Vitamins

For the past several months, I've been taking a few vitamins to help with my hair and skin health including my favorite brand that you've probably heard me talk about forever, Nutrafol. I take their 4 tablets, twice a day, in the morning and night — and let me tell you I've seen incredible results in just three months of using it! It helps reduce hair shedding, increase hair growth, and tackle the root cause of hair loss. I also take Olly Sleep tablets when I need a little extra help falling asleep at night!

Prayer/Gratitude

Anup and I do family prayer almost every night — it's so important when starting a family to have a solid foundation in prayer both together and apart. During this time, we'll also say what we are grateful for, share our worries or desires, and support one another through good and bad times!

And that's really it for my night time routine. Since marriage, my routine has definitely changed to including Anup's schedule and interests too which has been such an exciting part of living together and learning more about each other. This blog post ended up being more about marriage than about my own routine haha but of course I wouldn't be me without him! Let me know on IG or in the comments below what your nighttime routines are? Also what books are you currently reading? Can't wait to hear from you guys!
