Romantic Ways to Spend Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It’s no surprise that Valentine’s Day is my favorite holiday because it’s also my birthday!! I have the sweetest childhood memories of waking up to dozens of heart-shaped balloons in my bedroom and delicious boxes of chocolate truffles from Nehus. My parents really set the bar high! This year will be mine and Anup's sixth year celebrating Valentine’s Day/my birthday together and our first as husband and wife! For this week, I thought I’d share some romantic ways you can spend Valentine's Day with your loved ones!

Write a Love Letter

There is something so intimate and romantic about handwriting a love letter for your significant other. Anup and I do this every year for any special occasions such as our birthdays or anniversaries. I've saved all his letters in a box and cherish his sweet expression of gratitude and love.

Try a New Restaurant

For those looking to get reservations at a top NYC restaurant, I highly recommend booking in early January! Most restaurants offer pre-fixed or tasting menus during Valentine’s day which is such a fun opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! A few years ago we spent my birthday at River Café in Brooklyn – it was the most romantic restaurant we had ever been to. We were surrounded by stunning city views, sweet melodies from a harpist, and romantic candlelight! Check out my recent post for some suggestions on upscale restaurants in NYC for Valentine’s Day!

Flowers

Okay flowers and chocolate are a must! I loveeee having fresh flowers in every corner of our home. Anup bought me a Venus Fleur arrangement a few years ago and it made my whole home smell like delicious flowers! You could also head to your local market to pick up some beautiful blooms. Remember to ask the florist to arrange them in a bouquet! If you’re not spending the day with loved ones, whether that is your husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, best friends, family, sending flowers is such a sweet way of showing them you are thinking of them!

Treat Yourself

If you’re single or even if you’re in a relationship, Valentine’s Day is also about showing yourself some self love! The days leading up to Valentine’s Day I usually spend treating myself to a manicure, haircut, bubble bath, or massage! It can be so empowering to take extra time for yourself!

Take the Day Off

Anup and I have always had a tradition of taking the day off to spend with one another. In the past we’ve spent the day cooking together at home, watching movies, or going to museums! His love language is clearly spending quality time together!

I hope this post gave you a few ideas for making this day special! Whatever you’re doing and whoever you are spending this day with, I hope you experience much happiness and love! Anup and I are looking forward to spending our very first Valentine's Day as husband and wife this year! Would love to hear how you plan on celebrating Valentine's Day this year or in the past!
